I was perusing through a used bookstore today and came across a copy of Atonement. In high school, I remember declaring it as my favorite book of all time and somehow, over the past four years, I let that declaration fade from my memory. How? I don’t know.  Flipping through it today, I was reminded of the beautiful and misunderstood love story that lies within it’s pages. I get chills thinking about it. It’s been four years since I read it and I wanted to re-awaken my love for the book I used to think about non-stop, and maybe inspire you to pick it up for yourself.

“A person is, among all else, a material thing, easily torn and not easily mended.”

[alex wanger]

“nothing that can be can come between me and the full prospect of my hopes.”

“but what really happened? the answer is simple: the lovers survive and flourish.”

“finally he spoke the three simple words that no amount of bad art or bad faith can ever quite cheapen. she repeated them, with exactly the same emphasis on the second word, as if she had been the one to say them first.”
